Top page edge gilt. Damp damage to rear board with rippling to the vellum and marbled paper. Rear pastedown endpaper is lifting. Wear to lower edge of rear board. Light damp staining to the vellum at foot of spine and edge of front board. Light damp staining to margins of appendices and index. Patches of foxing throughout text. Good solid binding. Large fold-out map at rear with light foxing. Italian language. Previous owner's bookplate to front pastedown endpaper (Percival S. Umfreville Pickering) with ink name over. .
