About This Item

New York: Rubin Museum of Art in association with Mapin Publishing, 2006. First edition. Hardcover. vg. Quarto. 214pp. Original illustrated dust-jacket over burgundy cloth with gold lettering on spine. Color frontispiece. Published in conjunction with an exhibition of the same name, the goal of this catalogue is to bring together and illuminate works of art that identify these core Sikh beliefs in the period of their early development by the ten historical Gurus (16th-17th century). Through them, the reader is taken behind the external signs that identify Sikhs, who constitute the world's fifth largest organized religion, to its founding principles. This work is extensively illustrated throughout with 124 color photographic reproductions. Previous owner's blind stamp on title page (Norman Hurst). DJ, binding and interior in overall very good condition.
