About This Item
Santiago: Universidade de Santiago de Compostela., 1999 [1552]. Limited edition, number 38 of 100 copies printed on Gmund Baumwolle cotton paper and bound in full vellum (with 200 further ordinary copies). Quarto. Facsimile of the 1552 edition of Doni's I Marmi. Accompanied by a 41pp. introductory booklet (publisher's original card wrappers with French flaps). Both contained within the publisher's original full tan calf sleeve with exposed stitching, clasp, and blind-stamped title and printed title label to the spine. A very good copy, the binding firm with slight bowing to the vellum boards. The contents with a few small marks to the edges of the textblock and tanning to the endpapers are otherwise in very good order and clean throughout. The introductory booklet with a couple of minor marks to the front cover is also very good. The sleeve with a few small marks and scuffs and a little fading to the spine is otherwise in very good order. A well-produced facsimile of one of Anton Francesco Doni's more eccentric works (originally published in 1552), consisting of a series of imaginary dialogues involving over one hundred different characters, some real, some fictive, who are portrayed conversing on the marble steps (I marmi) of the Duomo of Florence on a wide range of unrelated topics.
