About This Item

Alhambra, California: Borden Publishing Co., 1965. 2nd Edition . Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. Collaborative effort by a prominent Los Angeles, psychologist & a modestly described "promising'' science fiction writer who is an "active student of the mental therapies," just when Van Vogt was starting to make a name for himself in the sci-fi universe. It introduces a tool developed by the first author--the Cooke Hypnotizing Spiral--as a means of inducing a hypnotic trance, with complete instructions for verbally guiding a patient into a hypnotic state. Describes the science behind hypnosis & its use in the treatment of various illnesses & conditions in adults & children, along with the use of auto-hypnosis & disguised hypnosis in the context of psychotherapy. In 252 pages, with Forewords by an obstetrician, psychologist, & dentist (!), this hardcover 8vo has light blue cloth-covered boards lettered in bright gilt to spine. Originally published in 1956 (as a pamphlet), this is the SECOND EDITION, 10th Printing from 1965, new in this hardcover format. Condition is Fine: exceptionally clean & bright, binding strong & straight, hinges intact, pages bright white & unmarked save for a bit of dust dulling to outside edges & mild tanning to endpapers. The price-clipped DJ is Near Fine: bright & colorful with virtually no edgewear, but downgraded due to 3 tiny rubbed spots to front cover. Nicely protected in new mylar cover Free!
