Hudson's Bay Company Calendar, "Grand Falls, Labrador"

Hudson's Bay Company, 1964. 15 3/4" X 24 7/8". Original calendar from 1962. One page calendar with printed date blocks for four months (January, February, March and April). Date blocks displayed below a large colour photograph that takes up two-thirds of the page. Metal rail along the top. Minimal edge wear and very slight buckling. Horizontal crease in the centre of the calendar. Two small, one centimetre stains, one on the image. Overall a clean calendar in very good condition. The image on the calendar is Grand Falls, Labrador -- John McLean of the Hudson's Bay Company discovered the Grand Falls in 1839, during his descent of the Hamilton River. Although the Falls were known to Montagnais and Naskapi Indians few others saw them until the outbreak of the World War II. Now the hydro-electric potential of the region is being developed by the British Newfoundland Corporation Limited. (From description on the date pad).</p><p>Between 1913 and 1970, the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) produced a calendar annually and distributed it free of charge through its department stores, various administrative offices and trading posts. Though the amount produced each year varied it averaged about one hundred thousand. These calendars now represent important Canadian history ephemera and are rare, particularly the ones produced between 1913 and the 1950s.
