Two post 8vo volumes, complete; each of matching full calf; gilt fillets to margins of boards; spine tooled in compartments, with lettering in gilt to second and third compartments; pp. xxxvi + (xlii) + 424 + index, (ii) + 446 + index; William Hogarth woodcuts as plates, incl. folding. Spines somewhat worn; joints starting; paper tape reinforcing to hinges; occasional fox spot. Good condition. An attractive set of Butler's famous satire of Puritanism, religiosity and pseudo-intellectualism, first published in the aftermath of the English Civil War. This edition includes the first appearance of Zachary Grey's critical notes. .
