Howkan Whale Burke Museum -- Original Print, SIGNED

- Used
[Seattle]: [Bill Holm], 1986. Limited Edition. Housed in archival sleeve. Very Good +. Folio print, measuring 20' x 21". Image printed in three colors (black, red, blue). Number 204 of 250 copies. Closed 3" tear on right-hand edge not affecting image; discreet crinkle to right of fin that disappears with pressure. The original "Single Fin" grave monument in Howkan, Alaska was commissioned sometime around 1880 by Moses Koohl-Keet as a memorial to his uncle, head of a tribe of the the Quetas Ravens. In 1985 Bill Holm, curator of the Burke Museum at the University of Washington, carved the replica, based on the fin, which is housed at the Burke, and on photos of the original monument. The dedication ceremony at Burke Museum, marking the museum's centennial, was attended by Koohl-keet's relatives. Since then, the monument has come to represent the museum as it's identifying logo. This print is particularly scarce; this copy is the first we've seen. A copy of the print is held in the Seattle Art Museum's permanent collection. S11131D
