About This Item

LONDON: GRANT RICHARDS. ABOUT VERY GOOD IN WRAPS. PUB 1906. FIRST EDITION. THIS IS THE VERY RARE PAPER WRAPS COLONIAL EDITION NOT MENTIONED IN GOLDSTONE & SWEETSER'S BIBLIOGRAPHY . PUBLISHER'S ORIGINAL PAPER WRAPS WITH SAME SIDNEY SIME ILLUSTRATIONS ON THE SPINE AND UPPER COVER AS THE FIRST EDITION BUT WITHOUT THE SIME FRONTIS AS WITH THE FIRST EDITION (G&S 10a). IT IS POSSIBLE THAT IT WAS REMOVED BUT SINCE THERE IS NO MENTION OF A COLONIAL EDITION BY GOLDSTONE AND SWEETSER AND THEREFORE NO COLLATION IT IS UNCERTAIN IF IT IS MISSING. THE LOOSE, WORN, AND SPLITING SPINE PANEL HAS BEEN EXPERTLY LAID ON TO A CLOTH BACKING WITH SOME LOSS MOSTLY AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SPINE AFFECTING THE PUBLISHER'S NAME AND "COLONIAL EDITION" BELOW IT, THERE HAS BEEN SOME CREASING TO THE COVER, AND ROUNDING TO THE CORNERS OF THE TEXT-BLOCK. ALL AND ALL A VERY NICE TIGHT COPY OF THIS RARE APPEARANCE OF THIS IMPORTANT COLLECTION WHICH GIVES "THE WHITE PEOPLE", "THE RED HAND", AND "A FRAGMENT OF LIFE" THEIR FIRST BOOK APPEARANCE. GOLDSTONE & SWEETSER NOTE AN ADVANCED COPY IN WRAPPERS (G&S 10b WHICH THEY MAY NOT HAVE SEEN SINCE IT SHOWS AN ASTERICK) AND WHICH DEPENDING ON THE CONDTION OF THE SPINE COULD BE A COLONIAL EDITON SINCE THE ONLY INIDICATION OF COLONIAL EDITION IS AT THE HEEL OF THE SPINE. A COLONIAL EDITION HAS ALSO BEEN NOTED IN BOARDS. .
