(29099). Octavo, cloth. A historical novel based on the lives of Jane and Hercules Dousman from 1848 to 1857 in the House on the Mound at Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. A sequel to BRIGHT JOURNEY (1940), which told the story of Hercules Dousman's early years. As a fur trader and frontier businessman (real estate, grain, lumber, packet companies, steamboats and railroads), Hercules Louis Dousman (1800-1868) became one of Wisconsin's wealthiest and influential men.
