Ernest Benn Limited, 1947. Hardcover. Acceptable. 1947. Seventh Impression. 349 pages. No dust jacket. Blue cloth with darkened gilt lettering to spine. Contains black and white illustrations throughout. Pages are lightly tanned with moderate foxing to text block edges. Former owner's inscription to front free endpaper, with rubbing and a few small nicks along text block edge. Occasional thumb-marking present throughout. Minor dog-eared corners. Boards have moderate shelf-wear with mild bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Heavy sunning to spine, with visible crushing to spine ends. Book has a pronounced forward lean and slight bow. Water drops on front and rear board.

Synopsis

Edith Nesbit (1858-1924) was an English author and poet whose children’s works were published under the name E. Nesbit. Born in London, she became active in politics, and in 1884 helped to found the Fabian Society. She wrote or collaborated on over 60 books of fiction for children, her best known including The Railway Children and The Story of the Treasure Seekers. Several of her books have been made into films.
