Original blue-green cloth by James Williamson of Lincoln with his stamp, spine lettered and ruled in gilt, cover center ornament in gilt single rule black border, lower cover plain. Some rubbing, light soiling, lower inner hinge starting else a very good copy from the library of E. Hubert Litchfield with his bookplate. First edition. Publisher's advertisements at the back. 1 vols. 8vo. With a tipped in slip on endpapers reading "Messrs Longmans intend this book to be sold to the Public at the advertised price, and supply it to the Trade on terms which will not allow of discount" The first of the three volumes Lang devoted to the study of the "Homeric question." Lang, as a Greek scholar, had made Homer his speciality. NCBEL 3:1441
