About This Item
"A Guide for those who wish to prepare and mount animals, birds, fish, reptiles, etc., for home, den or office decoration." Farnham states, "Although its methods greatly differ over time, the art reveals that there existed then as now the desire to preserve the trophy of the hunter's prowess and skill in natural objects." From the time of the Egyptians and throughout history taxidermy has existed and has even been institutionalized as an American folk craft. At one time taxidermy was listed in the Boy Scouts of America Handbook although dropped from the merit badge series because of the "lack of interest". In the early 1970's taxidermy experienced a comeback – and based on the animals available on the internet it is still going strong.
Condition: Hardbound moss green cloth boards with black lettering on cover and spine with an illustration of a mounted animal to the front cover. Top and bottom of the back strip are very slightly worn. Corners are slightly bumped with wear. Spine is straight with hinges firmly attached to the endpapers. The text block is solid. Age tanning throughout. The interior pages are in very good condition with no chips, tears, or previous owner markings. Filled with over black & white photographs and drawings. 246 pages with eight pages of advertising.
