A lively account of the organizational life of the Women's Institutes of Ontario. First established in 1897 in Stoney Creek, Ontario, the WI set out to improve the conditions of life for rural women through the promotion of domestic science education. That mandate soon expanded to include self-improvement, government lobbying, and community betterment. At the same time the organization spread geographically, across the province, the country and around the world. Tracing that growth, this history concentrates on the activities of members in their own communities, and explains the enduring popularity of the Women's Institutes from the women's point of view. Orders professionally packed, tracked and/or signed-for, and insured.
