About This Item
It was 1900, a Presidential Election year, and Republican President McKinley was seeking a second term against the Democratic Candidate William Jennings Bryan. The Republican Party, in their attempts to gather voters, distributed papers to selected groups of potential voters showing them how much better their lives would be under a Republican administration. This paper, "The Man with the Hoe" Conditions of American Farmers Contrasted under Democratic and Republican Administrations, was aimed at farmers, and hoped to catch their attention by the sub-title that spoke words that predicted a good future.
The booklet, which measures approximately 5.75 inches wide by 9 inches tall, contains 8 pages of text and charts describing the improvements in the financial health of the farmers during McKInley's first term, and comparing it to the poorer conditions under earlier Democratic administrations.
The booklet is staple-bound. The pages are tanned and somewhat brittle along the edges. The text and charts are clear and easily read. The overall condition of the item is fair/good.
The illustrations accompanying this description show the first page, the 2-page spread of text and charts on pages 4-5, and the last page of the paper.
