Description:
New York: New World Records, 1977. Pop artist Robert Indiana's vivid serigraph poster for the 1977 New World Records release of The Mother of Us All, Virgil Thomson's 1947 opera about Susan B. Anthony, with a libretto by Gertrude Stein: "The right to sleep is given to no woman." Indiana had long been an active admirer of The Mother of Us All, designing sets for several stage productions, including the Santa Fe Opera's 1976 bicentennial production, whose recording is advertised here. The typography features Indiana's signature tipped O in MOTHER, a design element that recalls his iconic LOVE sculpture and stamp. For more on Indiana and The Mother of Us All, see David Littlejohn, "Artists on the Opera Stage" in The Ultimate Art (1992). A really attractive promotional poster, whose minor flaws would be mitigated by proper framing. Promotional poster, measuring 36 x 24 inches, screenprinted in red, yellow, black, white, and purple. Three corners creased, several short closed tears to bottom edge.

Description:
Finland: Warner Bros, 1953. No Binding. Fine. An extremely rare Finnish "tour",(possible "insert") poster for the Alfred Hitchcock movie STRANGERS ON A TRAIN. The film was first screened in Finland on the 7th March in 1952. It was re-released in 1962 and had a further screening in 1984 in Helsinki. You are looking at a "tour" poster issued following that initial release of 1952. The poster has a printed date of 1953 - it is most unusual for Finnish movie posters to have a printed date on them. At the bottom there is a blank margin where you might normally expect printed text concerning times, dates, location and ticket price headings for hand-completion in respect of regional/local screenings. The dimensions of this poster are also non-standard. You can reasonably expect a normal Finnish "tour-poster" to conform to approx 24" x 13" but in this case the poster measures 27" x 13.25" - more akin to the Italian locandina. It is possible that…

USSR propaganda posterEvery child in the USSR heard about the distant Chilean people suffering under the Pinochet junta. The USSR led the international campaign for the release of Luis Carvalan and since 1975 has been negotiating on this topic. In September 1976, the option to exchange Korvalan for the famous Soviet political prisoner, dissident Vladimir Bukovsky was officially announced simultaneously by the Danish Committee of the Sakharov Readings in Copenhagen and by Academician Andrei Sakharov himself in Moscow. On December 15, the Politburo of the Central Committee of the CPSU adopted a decision "On measures in connection with the release of Comrade L. Korvalan", in accordance with which a special aircraft was allocated to deliver Korvalan and his family from Zurich, where the exchange was planned, to the USSR. The KGB of the USSR ensured the delivery of Bukovsky on a special plane to Zurich and sending his mother with him. On December 18, the exchange took place, after which Corvalan received…

Description:
East Falmouth, MA: PeKa Boo Press, 1984 IN NEAR FINE CONDITION. INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR on the ffp "To Bob Gontos (sp?) a good friend and pleasant colleague, Bob E." In April & May 1984, the U.S. and Canada presented verbal aguments to the World Court, over the exact international ocean boundary line between them. The author, as an ecologist and not a lawyer, found it difficult to take notes. In an effort to focus on the legal basis, he found himself doddling. This book is full of black & white doodles of a biological nature, which represent what was being discussed, retaining some of the original handwritten notes. ie: "Listening to Lawyers argue points is like looking through a kaleidoscope" with a kalaidoscopic image, along with handwritten notes that read "Any non-lawyer who attempts to explore the labyrinths of a lawyers mind will surely meet the minotaur." Very insightful and entertaining. In a protective mylar sleeve.
