About This Item
New York: Harmony Books, 1983. First American edition of Adams' Hitchhiker's trilogy. Octavo, original half cloth. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the title page, "To Neal Best wishes Douglas Adams." Near fine in a very good dust jacket. Jacket painting by Peter Cross. Jacket design by Ken Sansone. The omnibus edition of The Hitchhiker's Trilogy contains the entire text of all three books, a new introduction by Douglas Adams and new artwork created especially for this edition. The trilogy includes The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - in which Arthur Dent, an Earthling, is plucked off the Earth by his friend Ford Prefect seconds before Earth is demolished to make way for a galactic freeway, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe - where the floorshow is doomsday and Arthur and Ford are joined for dinner by Zaphod Beeblebrox, the two-headed, three-armed ex-president of the Universe, and Life, The Universe and Everything which answers the burning questions raised in the first two books and reveals the question to the Ultimate Answer: the number 42.
