About This Item
Johnson, Fry and Company, 1858. Hardcover. Acceptable. We will NOT sell this set to an overseas address. If you do not live the US, please do not order this heavy set unless you have a US address to send it to. This is a 6 volume set, or 6 divisions is how it is stated. No apparant date but other sets listed date it to 1858. There is a residue of a white sticker to the lower spine of each book as if this was once a library set but no other library markings are apparent on this set. All the spines are faded and have fraying/ small tears to the top and bottom cloth of the spines. The binding is solid on all the books though some tissue paper separating the engravings may be wrinkled or partially loose from the binding. There is some foxing and yellowing to the pages as would be expected from a set this large. The covers have some scuffing, rubbing and wear including the residual remains of small white stickers on the front (probably from an old price sticker.) There are 11 steele engravings in vol 1. , 9 engravings in vol 2, ,8 engravings in vol 3 (one of which is partially loose), 9 engravings in vol 4 amd 8 in volume 5 (the tops of a few of these engravings have small tears to it either at or near the spine), and finally 7 engravings in volume 6 (the last engraving has apparantly been torn out.) Vol 3 has a cracked signature in the front after the first engraving, but the binding is still solid and the book overall is solid. There is a small one inch tear near the spine to the lower part of the text block which affects all the engravings in volume 6. Overall a fair condition for this very old and rare set. Ships well padded and packaged with insurance and delivery confirmation tracking. Pictures available upon request
