Heavy book and priced accordingly. ; 376 pages; One of the most hyped novels of 1944 with the author receiving a large advance for a movie that never got made. Said to be one of the great forgotten American Novels, set in the South in the aftermath of the Civil War. Lee Harrington is a young man trying to sort out his memories of the tales of the Civil War told him by his grandfather and his father, and to imagine what their lives must have been like, and what the War had done to them. The memories of various battles are brought to life in his imagination alongside his own life in Kansas. .
