New York: George P. Scott and Co, 1834. First Edition. Leather bound. VG- (rubbing to leather boards, corners & spine. light to dark spotted foxing to most pages; moderate to some. Volume I has a scratch to the front leather near top of hinge. Some rubbing to bottoms of boards and a bit to some raised bands.). Three-quarter crimson leather with gilt edging. 5 raised bands with gilt lettering and decoration. Page ends marbled; Florentine-style marbled end papers. 435 and 480 pp. respectively with no illustrations. A beautiful copy of the original edition of this landmark title in the history of American art and design. Both volumes have an index of the appendix added on typed paper. A beautiful example of exquisite book binding.
