About This Item
Paris: Baudry's European Library, 1834. Leather. Very Good. 8.5" by 8.5". None. An historical work on the Glorious Revolution, in two volumes. Written by Scottish Jurist, Whig politician and historian Sir James Mackintosh. A very bright copy in a splendid contemporary binding For this work, Mackintosh collected a large amount of material and underwent a considerable amount of research. He only completed the work to James II's abdication at his time of death. However, his extensive notes came into the hands of Thomas Babington Macaulay who then used the notes for his own historical writings. The Glorious Revolution was the overthrow of King James II of England by a union of English Parliamentarians with Dutch stadtholder William III, Prince of Orange. Complete in two volumes. In quarter calf bindings with paper covered boards. Externally, generally smart with just some rubbing to the boards and spines. Rubbing to spines is heavier to the head and tail of spine. Further patches of light rubbing to the joints. Prior owner's inscription to the recto of front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with the odd spot. Very Good
