Blue printed softcovers, cover art of Ship Balclutha on front cover (minor toning, shelfwear, some uniform interior toning), still VG copy, w/ former ownership markings on verso of front cover, & back cover. from the library of Captain Olaf Hansen (1877-1959), Danish-American sea captain from Seattle, WA. First edition of this scarce work on the restoration of the Ship Balclutha, a Pacific Lumber ship, and the last vessel to the fly the flag of the Kingdom of Hawaii, with much of her timber shipments headed to Australia to supply mining timbers in the Broken Hill Mine. Later renamed the Star of Alaska in 1904, then the Pacific Queen when she was moored off Catalina Island and starred in the Mutiny on the Bounty featuring Clark Gable and Charles Laughton, and finally purchased by the San Francisco Maritime Museum in 1954 for $ 25,000 as an exhibit. The masts, yards, hull, decks, rigging, and more were all restored until finished in July, 1955.
