Prescott's historical work on the Catholic Monarchs, Queen Isabella I of Castile and King Ferdinand II of Aragon. Complete in three volumes. Bound by Mudie, with a binder's stamp to the verso of each front free endpaper. William Hickling Prescott (May 4, 1796 January 29, 1859) was an American historian and Hispanist, who is widely recognised by historiographers to have been the first American scientific historian. Despite suffering from serious visual impairment, which at times prevented him from reading or writing for himself, Prescott became one of the most eminent historians of 19th century America. In calf bindings. Externally, smart with very slight shelfwear and scuffs to leather of rear board of volume I. Internally, firmly bound. bright with slight spotting to some front and rear blanks.
