About This Item

London: Macmillan And Co., 1895. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Brown cloth binding with gilt boat depiction on the front, title in gilt on the spine. This book appears to have been affected by damp, and there is mottled staining and discolouration, it looks as if some protective tissue paper became stuck to it, and has left remains and bleach marks, especially to the back board. Hinge and text-block sound, but webbing revealed between the black end papers, front and rear. Ink inscriptions to front free end papers. Pages are a little undulated and with sporadic foxing. Illustrated throughout, with 34 collotypes, and over three hundred text illustration and numerous maps. Some of these are okay, others have been affected by foxing. Large fold out map at the rear in very good order. It is entirely legible and usable, no pages stuck together for example. It is heavy and may incur additional postage charges overseas.
