London: G.G. and J. Robinson, 1794. Hardcover. Fair +. A new edition, carefully corrected." Vol. 2 only (of 5 volumes): [32], 467, [1] p.23 cm. (8vo). Contemporary tree calf with six spine compartments between raised bands. Gilt-tooled decoration in spine compartments. All page edges speckled black. ESTC, T148503. This volume covers the rise of the modern kingdoms to the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. Former owner's inscription on front free endpaper: S.B. Wylie McLeod, Philadelphia, Dec. 1853. Same owner at head of title page: Samuel B. Wylie McLeod. Small engraved bookplate on front fixed endpaper of Alan S. Goodman. Samuel B. Wylie McLeod (1831-1899) graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and the College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York before serving as a surgeon in the U.S. Navy for two years. He was a doctor in New York where he helped to found the New York State Medical Association. In Fair+ Condition: front board is detached but present; lacking leather spine label and some gilt from spine; corners of boards are rubbed; occasional foxing; otherwise, pages are clean and tight.
