Wonderful antique volume of the rare signed history of Lowell Massachusetts, covering the discovery of the Merrimack River by De Monts in 1605 through to the date of publication 1868. Cowley, the author, signed the book "compliment of the author" on the front free endpaper. Topics include a history of manufactures, a general history of Lowell; a church and school history; a municipal and political history; Lowell during the Rebellion; and other items of note, including a list of soldier who died in service. Some wear/age. Hinges intact. Binding intact and solid. Some age/wear outside, concentrated at edges and highpoints. Inside is good, bright and clean, with occasional foxing. Scarce.
