London: Henry G. Bohn, 1852. ~Original full dark green calf, ornate gilt and blind frames to boards. Raised bands, red gilt label, and gilt decor to spine. Prize binding, with gilt device of Edinburgh Southern Academy to centre front board. Gilt decor to board edges, blind decor to turn-ins. Spine slightly faded, some rubbing to board edges. All edges gilt. 8vo (11.5 x 18cm). Tiny bookbinder's stamp of 'Robert Seton Mound Eden' to blank front endpage: Seton (1806-1854) was a successful Edinburgh bookbinder and bookseller from the 1830s to the 1850s. the Edinburgh Southern Academy prize bookplate to inside front board. Endpapers cracked over gutters, but hinges sound. Portrait frontis of Lamartine and other statesmen of the Second Republic, with tissue guard. English translation of the account of the French Revolution of 1848 by Alphonse de Lamartine, the writer, poet, and statesman who was appointed president of the provisional government in the first months of the Second Republic. ~Robust packaging.
