London: Longmans, Green and Co, 1892. Cloth. Very Good Indeed. 7" by 5". None. A selection of historical and political writings by William Edward Hartpole Lecky. Comprising volumes I, III, V and VI of the seven volume work 'A History of England in the Eighteenth Century', volumes I and II of 'History of European Morals' and his 'Historical and Political Essays'. Collated, 'History of England' is lacking volumes II, IV, and VII. Bookplate to the front pastedown of 'Historical and Political Essays' James William Macarthur Onslow. Lecky was an Irish historian, essayist, and political theorist. He is best known for his 'History of England'. His 'History of European Morals opens with the controversial moral dissertation on 'the natural history of Morals'. This work was one of Mark Twain's favourite books and influenced his writing of 'A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court'. His 'Political Essays' was first published posthumously and edited by his wife. In uniform full cloth bindings. Externally, very smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of all spines. Minor fading to the spines. Pages xv-xvi, to volume I of 'England in the Eighteenth Century' are detached but present. Otherwise, internally all other volumes are generally firmly bound. Pages are bright. Occasional light spots to pages. Very Good Indeed
