The scarce limited edition of Theophilus Jones's history of Brecknockshire in one large paper volume, featuring numerous illustrations. Limited edition to six hundred copies printed, the present number 47. Reprinted from the 1809 edition in one volume. Featuring a biography of the author, appendices, and index to rear. Collated with three portraits, twenty-seven full page plates of which II-VI, VIII-X, XII-XIII, XV, and XVII are numbered, one plate of music, three colour armorial plates, two folding maps with coloured outline, and vignettes to title page.A comprehensive historical and topographical work of Brecknockshire by Theophilus Jones, Welsh lawyer, best known for this work and as a historian of Brecknockshire. Loosely inserted is a sheet featuring a sheet addressed to subscribers concerning Theophilus Jones' grave; also inserted are two letters to a John dated 1866 and 1867 signed T H Games; a sheet with birth information on the Games family. With newspaper cuttings with information on Thomas Games and Brecon Lady's life and death pasted to front pastedown. in the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally a trifle rubbed with bumping and light chipping to head and tail of spine and extremities, boards lightly marked, cloth soiled and darkened. Back strip now laid down. Previous ownership inscription to verso front free endpaper dated 1898. Front free endpaper with chipping and minor closed tear to hinge, may detach with further handling. Internally, binding generally firm. Light spotting to edges, affecting only occasional leaf, particularly leaves of plates. Pages otherwise generally clean with a touch of age toning to peripherals, as usual with type of paper used. Folding map with minor closed tear. Good Only
