About This Item
Volume I has the SEAL and SIGNATURE of Hutchinson. Rebound in half leather (Sennett, NY). Marbled boards and endpapers, with gilt lettering on spine, five raised bands. Top edge gilt (dulled). Volume II chipped at top of spine, with amateur repair. Three top corners worn through to boards. Staining visible on bottom of side edge of both volumes. First 50 pages of Volume I have some mild staining at the top of the pages, near the spine, and 25 pages at the rear have staining at the top of the spine, darker and longer for the last 10 pages. Volume II has some light staining and bubbling at the bottom of the pages. Some darkening to pages, with only very light occasional foxing. Solid, tight binding. Volume I has two previous owner names and dates (1904 and 1934). Top right corner of title page of Volume II has a rectangular piece cut away at the top right corner, 1/4 inch by 1 1/2 inch. Lieutenant-Governor Hutchinson was the last governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Volume I, 566 pages, Volume II, 539 pages. Title of Volume II: The History of the Province of Massachusetts-Bay, from the Charter of King William and Queen Mary, in 1691, Until the Year 1750. Vol. I published in 1764, Vol. II published in 1767.
