About This Item

Carinda, NSW / Sydney, Brookvale: Self-published: Margaret Johnstone and Kay Masman / Prior Press (Printer), 1983. Hardback small quarto, dustjacket, good condition (in good dustjacket), black & white text-photos, illustrated endpapers, edges little foxed, piece missing top spine jacket with partial loss of title & author (rear cover rubbed, corners scuffed, light foxing rear flap, edgewear, little faded, reverse side lightly toned & foxed, small edge tears & closed tears), bookplate front flyleaf, autograph (both author's written name title page), errata slip loosely inserted. 200 pp. Margaret Johnstone and Kay Masman relate the history of Carinda, a country town near the Macquarie Marshes in northwestern New South Wales. It is a typical small Australian township that was developed to service surrounding rural areas and care for the needs of weary travellers. This well illustrated book details the origins of the town and the surrounding district (encompassing an area within a radius of 35 kilometers from the town) and development over the last 40 years. The district has distinct personalty and a strong sense of self-help and independence. The aim is to ensure there is a record of the story for later generations, before fact turns to fable. (Bookplate of Anne Frost.).
