About This Item

David & Charles, Newton Abbot, first edition, 1971. Cloth, 8vo,. 229 pp. A major bibliography of writings in geology from the 17th century onwards. The first main section consists of a selected list of works arranged chronologically, year by year. The list includes works of purely original research, works of summary and generalisation, expositions of principles, and various combinations of these. In the second main section these works are treated in a thematic context; a series of short essays, summaries, and compilations arranged in an order which seems most reasonably to portray the evolving story. The three appendixes list (A) additional works and works of commentary referred to in Section II, (B) authors with short biographical statements, and (C) names of places, stratigraphical divisions and fossils, Near Very Good in dustwrapper with sunned spine.
