Some foxing to the original gray boards, there is an old wrinkle to the top inner corner of front free endpaper in volume 2, light foxing to the endpapers only, the text is very bright and clean; a tight copy in very good condition.. Pp. xlviii, (i); 464; pp. (iv), 628; with 500 wood-engravings. Contemporary one-half brown calf leather over the original publisher's gray boards, spine with five raised bands with red morocco title label lettered in gilt in one compartment, the volume number is gilt-stamped in another compartment, the remaining four compartments are decorated in blind in floral designs, speckled page edges, 8vo. A very important work by William Yarrell on the natural history of British fishes, freshwater and marine. There are an additional 100 illustrations in this second edition. According to Westwood & Satchell, Bibliotheca Piscatoria, pp. 243-4, this set is "Indispensable." Signature of W Villiens Fowke on the front attached endpaper of each volume. Page 465 in volume 2 has some old neat marginal annotations - likely in the hand of W Villiens Fowke. No other ownership marks.
