Roy. 8vo, cont. full red calf, rubbed/minor wear, raised bands to spine, gilt tooling to compartments, black leather title piece, marbled edges and endpapers, gt crest to boards. A few contemporary ink annotations to text; minor scattered foxing. Vg.. 5th edition. Francis Orpen Morris (1810-1893) was a Church of England clergyman and naturalist. The present book was the standard butterfly book of the second half of the 19th-centruy, and today is considered a lepidopterological classic. Text and plates printed by Benjamin Fawcett.
