About This Item
London: Groombridge and Sons, 1851-1857. Hardcover. Fair.. 4to.. Published in six volumes, plainly bound in brown buckram with gilt lettering to spines. Bindings in all volumes are worn and splitting, with markings to boards. Loose pages in some volumes but all present. Volumes 1 and 2 have split shoulders. Volume 6 has water damage and the binding is bowed. Pages are age tanned with occasional slight foxing. Superb coloured engravings, which are in remarkably good condition. Previous owner's pencilled signature on title page of Vol 1 (Dowager Lady ?). Although the condition of the bindings is only fair, this is a fine set, the first edition of Morris's important work. 4to. NB this is a uniform binding with Morris's other great works: A History of British Butterflies (1 volume) and A Natural History of the Nests and Eggs of British Birds (3 volume set), which we have in stock. Please enquire about postage as the set is very heavy. 1851
