About This Item
Middle East fhal Ferrier, J. P. The History of the Afghans. Lahore, Pakistan: Sang-e-Meel Publications, 2002. xxi, 491pp, folding map, map, tables. A nice reissue of the original 1858 edition. Nice copy. interesting photo in color of a Middle Eastern suq on front cover. Ferrier dedicates the book to his old comrades in arms in the Chasseurs d'Afrique. I wonder if he knew the legendary Civil War general, Philip Kearny, who fought in the outfit and was named by his French comrades, Kearny le Magnifique.? One can easily imagine that Kearny would have become president after the war if he hadn't died so young; he was Lincoln's favorite general
