Haarlem: Printed for the Limited Editions Club by Joh. Enschedé en Zonen, 1958. First edition thus. Hardcover. very good + to near fine. Octavo. xxviii, 615,(1)pp. Index. Brown cloth with an embossed cream cameo on front cover and a cream cloth, gilt, spine label. Housed in publisher's decorative paper covered cardboard slipcase, spine lettered in red. Title page within a color printed decorative border as are the titles of the 12 separate books. Illustrated with endpaper maps and one text map, and numerous text woodcuts by Edward Bawden. Edition limited to 1500 numbered copies (this is #1363), signed on the limitation leaf by Edward Bawden. Spine of book slightly sunned and slipcase is sound but the paper covering it is split at the fore-edge as well as some of the joints, and the slipcase spine is slightly darkened.

*Title continued "That men's actions may not in time be forgotten nor things great and wonderful, accomplished whether by Greeks or barbarians, go without report, nor, especially, the cause of wars between one and the other."
