London: Simpkin and Co, 1907. First Edition. Octavo. . Half-title, xii[xiii], 345 pages, index, 7 color plates by Major R.A. Wymer. They were moved from light dragoons to Hussars in 1805. They sailed for Portugal in 1808 and their first action was the battle of Vimeira. Chapter IV deals with the March to Madrid in the Sir J. Hope's Column. Besides giving very thorough routes of the Hussars, there are color plates which indicate the colors used at the various stages of the 18th Hussars in the early 19th century. The history of the changes in the uniform is helpful with information not found in other sources. Bound in blue cloth decorated with the crest of Princess of Wales, nicely rebacked in blue leather, raised bands with compartments lettered and decoratively stamped in gilt, top edge gilt, endpapers renewed. A handsome copy.
