Recent period style vellum binding with a central cartouche in blind on both boards and a gilt label to the spine. The last 8 leaves have small paper repairs to the blank lower corner and the final Con Privilegio leaf has neat restoration to the blank margins. None of the repairs affect the text in any way. Differential toning to occasional sheets and two facing pages noted with a small ink blot, but generally the text block is clean and tight. The Author (fl.1701) did not visit the Americas but was a lawyer and relator (court reporter) of the Royal Chancery of Valladolid and later relator to the Council of the Indies, so was able to make use of the huge official archives in his writing. He provides a contemporary account of the political background to and the military conquest (1697-1701) of the Itzas, the last independent Maya kingdom in modern Guetemala. His work is a primary source for all subsequent researchers.
