Mixed but now matched set in modern fine binding bound in period style. Volume 1 is 1715; volume 2 is 1704 both from Amsterdam. Both have old identical ownership inscription on title pages; so this pair has been together for some time. One folding map, 3 plates, both volumes with half titles present. The map of Peru and the Amazon is complete and backed with rice paper. Temple of the Sun plate is complete but has some edge toning due to prior misfolding. Last two plates are images of Incan rulers. Looking at these plates they look like they could have been a single folding plate at one time. I reviewed other copies and it appears some have the images split and others do not. Titles and half titles have been backed with rice paper. Pagination: Vol. 1: [32], 512, 1 map, 3 plates. Vol. 2: [12], 492, [36]. All old blanks gone, modern blanks present. Only writing is old ownership signatures on title pages. Old water spot in center of preface fades out after next leaf. Otherwise excellent interiors using the beautiful laid paper of the time. Some general toning, no foxing, no tears. There is a printer's error on pages 243/44 and 255/56 where a corner was laid over, text is not affected and this is not a serious blemish. Modern fine binding by Starr Bookworks is high quality and quite attractive. Books are 6.5 inches tall and fit nicely in the hand. See European Americana 704/67 and Hill 677.
