[PRESENTATION COPY] Hardcover : pp. (7) 8-147 [2] (9, Advertisements) : photo portraits : floral printed e.p.s : red pebbled boards with borders in blind and top board lettered in gilt : presentation inscription on half title to "Major General Hutton, Commanding the Militia of Canada from A D Aubry, Lt Col, Com'dg' 85th Batt." : in a different hand "Ottowa '99".
Corners bumped; head and tail of spine tender and abraded; some abrasions, marks, and bubbling to covers; one leaf detached (p.7); final endpapers separated at gutter; marginalia in pencil (English). Lieutenant-General Sir Edward Thomas Henry Hutton was a British Military Commander who pioneered tee use of mounted infantry in the British Army. He was also the first General Officer Commanding the Australian Army from 1901-1904, having previously commanded the military forces in New South Wales. After he was recalled in 1896 he was given command of the Canadian Militia and was based in Ottawa where he received this copy of the History of the French Canadian Military from Lt . Col. Aubry, who also wrote the preface.
