Some modest foxing, bindings lightly rubbed at edges, with small scuff to one joint; a good set, in an interesting binding. First edition. Bazin (1797 - 1850), left the practice of law for historical pursuits, and this work is highly regarded for the portrait it provides of the "Monarchie de Juillet." Of special note is the essay describing the cholera outbreak in Paris.

The French invasion of Russia of 1812 was a turning point in the Napoleonic Wars. The campaign reduced the French and allied invasion forces to a tiny fraction of their initial strength. Eugene Labaume was a geographical engineer and historian who wrote 'A circumstantial narrative of the campaign in Russia' as a narrative of the Napoleonic campaigns in Russia in 1812. Labaume discusses the Campaign of Paris in 1814, the battle of Paris, which was fought during the Napoleonic Wars, and the French defeat, which led directly to the abdication of Napoleon I.

This 1816 first English edition includes a frontispiece portrait of Napoleon with the two folding battle plans.

Francois le Tellier de Louvois was a French political figure during the reign of Louis XIV who is best-known for his role as Secretary of State for War. While holding this position, Louvois helped grow the French army and improved the development of soldiers. French author Gatien de Courtilz de Sandras wrote an important version of Louvois military memoirs. Interestingly, most of Sandras's works were about fictional military memoirs, though this work is known to have factual merit.
