Paris: Chez Nyon Paine, 1789. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. 12mos. 364; 440 pages. Hardcovers in original brown speckled leather. Five raised spine bands with tooling on the spines in gilt. Bindings are rubbed and bumped. There''s a scuff near the foot of the spine on the second volume. All edges of text blocks are red. Endpapers are marbled. Text is a little toned and has some occasional spots. Occasional fountain pen notes/marks in text. Contains 7 copperplate engraved plates, including an engraved foldout plate at the end of Volume I and 6 plates (Numbered plates 2-7) at the end of Volume II. The plate in Vol. I shows. "Gaulois Primitif." The plates in Vol. II are all full-page plates, each showing several coins or medallions. Text is in French. The English translation of the title is, "History of France Before Clovis; Preceding & forming part of the History of France begun by MM. Velly & Vielaret & continued by M. Garnier, Historiographer to the King & Monsieur, Inspector & former Professor of the Royal College & the Academy of Belles-Lettres.
