Kingswood, Surrey (U.K.):: Kaye & Ward, Ltd., 1983. A bright, shiny, clean, square, tight copy. Sharp corners. The Dust Jacket is NOT price clipped (£9.95 net). No chips. No tears. No creases. No remainder mark. Pages are fresh, crisp, and unmarked. Captivating and inspirational story of a man who became a professional mountaineer despite having lost both legs below the knee. Illustrated with 16 pages of full-color photographs. Glossary. Appendix on Climbing Technique. List of Major Ascents, 1970-1983. Index. Bound in the original blue boards, lettered in shiny gold on the spine. From the Dust Jacket: "From a boyhood's love of mountains Norman Croucher triumphed over an accident at the age of 19 in which he lost both legs below the knee, to go on to fulfill his dream of becoming a mountaineer and who has climbed and led expeditions in almost all the major mountain ranges of the world... [After] training in the Alps, he went on to Peru, Argentina, Kashmir and China, where he made several ascents in excess of 20,000 feet. The story of his grueling battle on Muztagh Ata, 24,757 feet, in China, is enough to leave one breathless... Even when one of his artificial legs broke in Argentina he would not give up but set out on one leg to climb a mountain more than a thousand feet higher than Mont Blanc, the highest of the Alps.". About About Books

About Books (Genny and Michael Winne, proprietors, formerly of Parsippany, New Jersey) has been selling rare and OP books since 1985. Besides book fairs and mail-order catalogues, long-time collectors and dealers will remember our lengthy For Sale ads in the Antiquarian Bookman and similar magazines. Our inventory of over 40,000 volumes is especially strong in the specialties listed, but contains fine books in a variety of other fields as well. Because most of our books are stored in protective boxes, rather than on shelves, they cannot be viewed as a whole. If you wish to visit us to examine specific titles, please provide 24 hours notice and we will make them available for your inspection. Phone calls to (702) 750-2722 are welcome, but please, only between the hours of 8am and 10pm (west coast time).
