About This Item
New York: Dodd Mead, 1979. Book Club Edition. From the library of actor Jim Backus, inscribed to him by his wife, Henny: “Darling, What better Valentine than Al’s Book? I Love you! Henny.” Near fine bright copy with some minor edge wear in a lightly dust soiled dust jacket with some small chips and tears. A collection of over 200 of Hirschfeld’s classic drawings of entertainment figures. Jim Backus was a veteran of stage, vaudeville, radio, film and television - the medium in which he is best remembered for being the voice of the cartoon character Mr. Magoo, and for his portrayal of Mr. Howell on Gilligan’s Island, as well as for his work on the popular series I Married Joan and The Jim Backus Show. His wife, Henny (Henriette Kay), co-starred with him on the television series Blondie and co-wrote with him Rocks on the Roof, What Are You Doing After the Orgy?, and Only When I Laugh.
