About This Item

Berkeley; Yosemite: Heyday Books; Yosemite Association, 2002. First Trade Edition. Hardcover. Near fine/very good. Killion, Tom. 128p. 1st printing. Adapted from the handprinted book produced by The Quail Press founder Killion, this work combines the woodcut prints of Killion with the words of poet Snyder and naturalist Muir, all of whom traveled the backcountry of the High Sierra in awe of the mountain ranges' beauty. Killion's woodcuts, printed from wood and linoleum blocks based on sketches he made during his high country treks in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, the John Muir Wilderness, and Yosemite National Park, show the mountains in each of the four seasons interspersed are Muir's writings of his treks in the Sierras. Excerpts of Snyder's High Sierra Journal: 1955 – 1991 appear with more of Killion's woodcuts, concluding with some of Killion's sketches, showing the progress of sketching, carving, and printing a few of the prints. B&w and color illustrations. (9-1/4"x11-7/8")
