Green dust jacket, with illustration of a U.S. Mail airplane, and white type. Bound in green boards with black lettering to spine.

Some minor foxing to front and rear endpapers. DJ has a half inch closed tear to front top edge, and some minor rubbing to back side of DJ.

"Henry Ladd Smith was born in Cleveland, Ohio. As a boy he saw the Cleveland-Chicago segment of the pioneer air-mail route grow from coast to coast. He was graduated from Yale in 1929. After six years of newspaper work in Cleveland and Tacoma, he returned to college and earned a Ph. D in history at the University of Wisconsin".
