Classic British murder mystery set in London, 16th book in the popular series featuring investigator Albert Campion. A FIRST BRITISH EDITION (the true first), First Printing from Chatto & Windus, 1958, this hardcover 8vo has orange cloth-covered boards lettered in bright gilt to spine. Condition is Near Fine: exceptionally clean & bright, pages moderately tanned (commensurate with age) with offsetting to endpapers; all are completely unmarked. Binding strong & straight, very slight dust dulling to outside page edges & mild corner bumping. The bottom (British-price) clipped DJ is VG, with slight darkening to spine, discoloration to back cover, & an unclosed 2" tear to lower spine; just about invisible under the new clear mylar cover which we provide free! Synopsis
