About This Item
London: MacMillan & Co. Ltd 1943. (Hardcover) Very good, no dust jacket. 231pp. Burgundy cloth with gilt lettering to the spine. Notes, index. There is a previous owner's blind stamp and ink inscription to the front free endpaper, the endpapers are lightly spotted and toned, and the front hinge has been repaired with cloth tape by a previous owner. "It is dangers to speak of movements in literature. Inspiration blows with too wild a breath for its motions to be measured, and the poet's personality defeats our efforts to claim him for this or that party or to explain him as an example of a rule. But if we compare the poetry written in Europe after 1890 with what preceded it, we must admit that there was a change and that the newer poets had some common qualities which made them look like members of a movement" - from the Introduction. Book about Alexander Blok, Stefan George, Rainer Maria Rilke, Paul Valery & William Butler Yeats. Time Period 1890's. Locale: Europe. (Ideas, Literary Criticism, Poetry, Symbolism).
