Green textured linen with darker green flower border with a two-color titled paste-on on the front cover. The top edge is gilt. 8.75 inches tall; unnumbered pages of cardstock. Captioned Tissue-guarded color plates and illustration of ornamentation on each page. The illustrations and decorations are by Arthur I Keller.
The bindings are tight and square. Text clean, light even toning. Moderate shelf handling wear. A hint of darkening from the glue under the front paste-on.
Ref: Bal 7541; Overdrive. Francis Bret Harte was an American short story writer and poet, best remembered for his short fiction featuring miners, gamblers, and other romantic figures of the California Gold Rush.
This tale takes a more eloquent and experimental route and is told in the form of three letters, written as poems. Love, longing, and loss are all portrayed in just a few words that became instant favorites.
