About This Item
New York, New York: Peter Henderson & Company, 1890. Second Edition . Hardcover. Fair. The "Father of American Horticulture" offers this "concise, yet comprehensive dictionary of plants" designed for florists, gardeners, & amateur horticulturists in late-nineteenth-century America. In 528 pages, inc. 2 pages of ads for Henderson's other plant books in rear, illustrated throughout with engravings of plants. Orig. published in 1881, this is the new Second Edition from 1890, with a new Preface, brown cloth-covered boards, stamped in black & lettered in gilt to front cover. Contents are very clean 7 completely unmarked. The text block is strong & all pages are secure. However, both front & rear hinges are cracked & the front board is nearly completely detached. Paper covering spine has been reglued. Heavy rubbing & fraying to all corners & both ends of spine, down to underlying boards. Still a good reference/reading copy! Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have!
